        The village has its own police force, supervised by the village Chief of Police, which provides 24-hour protection, seven days a week. A trustee is appointed Police Commissioner to act as an intermediary between the police and the board of trustees. Residents must obtain village stickers for their cars at the police booth, located at 1A Beverly Road. In addition, residents are requested to notify the police if they anticipate a large number of visitors. Also, residents may inform the police when leaving on vacation so they may keep an extra close watch on your home.

        The onset of autumn and the corresponding darkness occurring earlier in the evening, brings with it greater opportunity for criminal activity. While we want to stress that there has not been an increase of instances of this sort in Kensington to date, we feel that a simple reminder of basic safety tips and information is always appropriate. The following suggestions and information may make you and your home less attractive to would be criminals.
  1. Ensure that all windows and doors are securely locked at all times. If you wish to leave a window open for ventilation, utilize the pop out security latches which prevent windows from opening more than a few inches.
  2. Lock and activate alarms on all vehicles parked in your driveway.
  3. Have your burglary alarm turned on at all times, even when you are home.
  4. If you will not be returning home before dark, have lights turned on by automatic timers.
  5. When going out for a short time in the evening, leave lights turned on in the home, also a radio or T.V. turned on gives the appearance of activity in the home.
  6. Illuminate your property with outdoor lighting, including motion activated lights at the sides and rear of your home.
  7. Trim shrubs and bushes that obscure windows and doors from view from the street.
  8. When leaving your home for an extended period, stop all mail, newspaper, and penny saver deliveries. Notify us of your travel dates so that we can monitor your property for unwanted activity, you can do so by leaving a message on our non emergency answering machine, phone number 482-2853. We will also secure any UPS packages that are delivered while you are away, until you return home.
  9. When traveling in Kensington, should someone arouse your suspicion, or if you feel that you are being followed, call us immediately at 482-0480, or drive directly to Police Headquarters and pick up the red emergency phone located by the front door. An officer will immediately respond to assist you.
  10. Program our emergency phone number into your speed dial on your home phones and cell phones and report anything that seems suspicious or unusual to us at 482-0480.
  11. If you see someone that you feel is suspicious, DO NOT confront them, call us immediately, and try to provide an accurate description of the person or vehicle, including license plate numbers, when possible.

        Once again, Kensington is a very safe place in which to live, and we can assure you that we will continue to do our utmost to provide continued protection to your families and property.
